Scratch Big Data Summit

The MIT Media Lab will be hosting the Scratch Big Data Summit on Friday, March 21, 2014, from 10am to 4pm.

The Summit is being organized in conjunction with the release of a research dataset with the first five years of data from the Scratch website—an online community where young people program and share interactive stories, games, and animations. This release will make public data from the Scratch website accessible to researchers. It is one of the largest accessible datasets of youth online activity, including more than 1 million members, 2 million projects, and 10 million comments.

The goal of the Scratch Big Data Summit is to introduce the dataset to interested researchers, discuss strategies for using the dataset in research, and provide opportunities for researchers to plan collaborations using the dataset.

Participants in the Summit come from diverse fields, including educational research, learning analytics, human-computer interaction, computer-supported collaborative learning, and computational social science.
