What is our Scrapping for a Cure retreat?

Scrapping for a Cure (SFAC) is an annual 2-day crafting retreat held to promote awareness of and create hope for those with Cystic Fibrosis. All of our proceeds go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. All committee members and staff work on a volunteer basis. Learn more about our beginnings here.

Why was quilting added to this event for 2019?

Scrapbooking is a method of preserving and presenting personal and family memories and history in a book-type format. Scrapbooking has been around for hundreds of years. It is what allows us to know where we came from while celebrating the milestones of our lives. Well, quilting is similar in nature, yet quilters make their memories with fabric. How many of us have family quilts that mean the world to us? Many say quilts and scrapbooks are some of the most valuable items in their lives...so why not combine these arts into one event!!!

How are a scrapbooking crop and a quilting bee similar?

Crops are essentially scrapbooking get-togethers that are great ways to share special time with friends while working on your various scrapbooking projects. Quilting bees consist of a group of women who, originally, got together out of necessity to create quilts for warmth, but today, women get together more for camaraderie and inspiration. This is true in both scrapbooking and quilting.

What if I don't scrapbook or quilt?

No worries. We welcome all crafters, knitting, sewing, etc.

What are the hours of the event?

Friday, 3/29, 8 a.m. until midnight and Saturday 3/30, 7 a.m. until 11 p.m.

Yes. We have a Super Early Bird and a Regular Early Bird special. See the 2019 Registration Tab for more details.

  • Regular Early Bird: Register and pay in full on or before November 30, 2018, you will have your name placed into a drawing for a one night stay at the Hampton Inn-Germantown (during the event)
  • However, if you are super quick with your worm-hunting skills and register and pay in full on or before October 31, 2018, you will also receive the Super Early Bird special of a complimentary 2019 SFAC Enchanted Forest event t-shirt.

Where do I sleep?

We have set up a contract with the brand new Hampton Inn Germantown as our host hotel for participants. Hampton Inn has provided our group with a discounted rate of $119 per night. Make your reservations here. Most out of town attendees will make use of our host hotel that offers many wonderful amenities, and many of our local attendees prefer to stay in the hotel rather than commuting back and forth. The hotel is about a block away...definitely walkable and easily drivable. Here's a map showing the Great Hall and Hampton locations: https://goo.gl/maps/xz64jsR8akF2

What do I eat?

We'll be providing lunch and dinner both days. Breakfast will be on your own (provided if you stay in the hotel), or there are usually breakfast-type snacks brought in by other attendees.

What will my table space be like?

This year, table space for each crafter will consist of 1/2 of a 6' round table (2 crafters/table). We MAY have access to a limited number of regular 6' rectangular tables, so if you are interested in one let us know by email once you have registered.

Will I be able to sit with my friends?

We will have tables set in groups/rows so our crafters can sit with their friends, however, this option is a first come first serve basis. As the crop fills up, we may not be able to accommodate all group requests. If this is the case, we will let the group know ahead of time.

Will there be a place to purchase supplies?

Yes, we will have vendors set up to supply you with scrapbook and quilting products during most of the event.

Will I have access to Wi-Fi?

Absolutely! There will be free Wi-Fi at the Great Hall and in rooms at the Hampton Inn.

Will I have access to electrical outlets?

We will have electricity running throughout the venue. We try to accommodate all our attendee needs, but an outlet may not be right at your table, so please bring an extension cord and power strip.

What should I wear?

Comfy layers. The event hall is quite large and thus temperatures may vary and each person will have their own individual preference. Most crafters bring sweaters or light blankets if they are cold-natured. Keep in mind that Friday is our costume contest and Saturday is SFAC T-shirt spirit night.

What about music?

Again due to personal preference, we insist that music be played via headphones only.

What is your cancellation policy?

We understand that, once we have received your payment, circumstances may arise that prevent you from attending the 2019 Scrapping for a Cure Retreat. We will make decisions on a case-by-case basis and will try our best to accommodate your situation.

Our preferred method of handling cancellations is to either have a friend yours take your place or have someone on our wait list that can come in your place. Exchange of payment will be between you and your replacement.

If neither of the substitution options above is possible, here are the points of our standard cancellation policy:

  • All cancellations must be made in writing (email).
  • We cannot transfer registrations from one event year to another.
  • We have a $50 non-refundable cancellation fee on all cancellations
  • 2 months or more out from the scheduled event (2019 = up to 1/29/19) – Full refund minus $50 non-refundable cancellation fee.
  • Within 2 months from event, no refund given unless we have a paid substitution for your spot. $50 non-refundable cancellation fee still applies.
  • There will be no refunds for no-shows.
  • Returned checks will be charged a $25.00 fee and the check will need to be replaced with a money order.

Payment of the full event fee is due to consider yourself registered for the event. If not, this may result in losing your space at the event in addition to the non-refundable deposit.
