Southern California Paleontological Society

 

 
The Southern California Paleontological Society, founded January 5, 1960, is a non-profit organization which pledges itself to work in cooperation with scientific institutions and for the preservation of the fossil record. Participation is invited in the program to collect, preserve, and study paleontological material.


MEETINGS AND FIELD TRIPS

The Society meets monthly for an informative program about fossils and fossil collecting. At the meetings, members display fossils collected on the Society's monthly field trips to fossil localities in Southern California and the Southwest.

 SCHEDULE CHANGE NOTICE:   Our April meeting and field trip dates have changed.
Our meeting will take place on April 13th, and our field trip on April 19th.

MEETING TIMES

Unless otherwise noted, Society meetings begin at 1:30 PM on the first Sunday of each month. Visitors are welcome.  In August, there is no meeting.

Parking is behind the museum.  Use the rear entrance, and meet in Classroom 4.

 
JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETY

Members receive a subscription to the Bulletin of the Southern California Paleontological Society. Published bi-monthly, the Bulletin features articles about fossils and fossil collecting, national and international paleontological findings, Society events, and other items of interest to its readers.

SCPS AWARDS FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

For nearly 60 years, the Los Angeles County Science Fair has showcased thousands of outstanding scientific studies.  In addition to helping to sponsor the Fair, SCPS presents its "Awards for Academic Excellence" for several paleontology related projects each year to students in both the Junior (grades 6-8) and Senior (grades 9-12) Divisions.
