Voyage to the Stars

Writing the Future

Science fiction is far more than adventures in space or robots. While it does have the obvious aspects of entertaining us with dreams of the future and what may be possible, the genre offers much more. Science fiction can also tell us about ourselves by changing the setting. While it can on occasion predict the future, it can also warn of the dangers of following certain paths. The best writers in the genre use all these tools. They give us an entertaining story with a message. Whether the story is set in an alternate past, the present, or the future, we can relate to the characters and their plights. But when we look deeper these stories have real meat to them.
