Experiment with the data yourself...
Now that the Data Zone boundaries are officially open data and available under the Ordnance Survey (OS) Open Data Licence and the fact that users often have to patch together all the different years and domains of SIMD data and then connect them to geographic boundaries, I have made two files available here in zipped archives:

  1. An Excel file containing all the variables from the SIMD from 2004 to 2012. The individual Data Zone scores are available here in addition to ranks and all other information associated with the individual SIMD domains. I hope that this saves people some time. There are two sheets in this file: the main one with all the SIMD data and another sheet which tells you what all the different variables are.
  2. A shapefile for users who want to map and analyse the SIMD data covering the period from 2004 to 2012. The columns in the shapefile's attribute table match those in the spreadsheet above so please use the spreadsheet for an explanation of field names. In addition to the fields in the spreadsheet I've also added in the area of each Data Zone in square miles and the x and y coordinates of the Data Zone centroid.

I hope that you find these files useful.
