An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is a highly nonlinear, uncertain and time-varying system. UAV’s have been deployed to many applications ranging from commercial to industrial and military applications. Conventional controllers such as Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) controllers have been implemented to control an UAV. What is the working principle of an UAV? How do we control an UAV semi-autonomously and autonomously?
This is a multi-disciplinary project. In this project, students will learn about aerodynamics of an UAV, concept of automatic control, etc. Students will apply their mathematical and scientific knowledge as well as programming skills in this project. They will carry out simulations studies using MATLAB and Simulink and will develop intelligent controllers to achieve more robust, faster and accurate control performances.
Students will learn about modelling and control of complex dynamics systems and have an appreciation of the challenges and fun in solving real-world engineering problems.
