Particle Phenomenology at UCM

About me

I am "profesor titular" in the Departamento de Física Teórica, in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. I am a theoretical physicist working on high energy particle phenomenology.

Here you can find some information and news about my research and teaching activity.

The world of quarks and gluons is fascinating and new and sohpisticated theoretical tools are invented to provide a deeper understanding of it. In my research I use the effective field theories, which allow a clearer understanding of the kinematical environment in which QCD observables are measured. Some examples of effective field theories are SCET (Soft Collinear Effective Theory), HQET (Heavy Quark Effective Theory), ChPT (Chiral Perturbation Theory). Some intersting physical observables include Transverse Momentum Distributions, the mass of the quarks, jets, CP-violating observables.

In the latest years I have been studying the distribution of momentum and spin of quarks and gluons inside hadrons. These tiny movements can be detected in several running and old experiments (Tevatron, LHC, Compass, Belle, Babar, BES, JLaB ...) and projected ones (EIC, ..). Theoretically, one can provide a consistent analysis using factorization theorems for cross sections and the concept of Transverse Momentum Dependent Distributions (or TMD).

Here I show some pictures taken using the recent code arTeMiDe that we have developed in Eur.Phys.J. C78 (2018) no.2, 89. The pictures show the Drell-Yan and Z-boson production at LHC in several experiments.
