Specific Fellowships of Interest
- NSF-Graduate Research Fellowship Program: The program supports graduate work (Masters and Doctoral) in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines at US institutions. Three years of support; Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents.
- Hertz Fellowship: For prospective graduate students of the applied physical, biological and engineering sciences; citizens or permanent residents of the US.
- Department of Defense - National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship Program (NDSEG): "... is awarded for study and research leading to doctoral degrees in one of the following specialties: mathematics, computer science, physics, biosciences, chemistry, chemical engineering, geosciences, cognitive/neural/behavioral sciences, materials science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, naval architecture and ocean engineering, aeronautical and astronautical engineering, civil engineering, and oceanography."
- Department of Energy Krell CSGF: For research in computational applications to science and engineering.
- American Association of University Women (AAUW)-International Program: Applicants must be women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
- The American Association of University Women (AAUW)-Selected Professions Fellowship: Applicants must be women; permanent US residents; and be applying "to pursue graduate and first-professional degrees in designated fields where women traditionally have been underrepresented"
- American Australian Association: The American Australian Association makes annual awards available to US fellows to pursue studies in Australia. The fellowships are awarded to outstanding Americans doing advanced (graduate & postdoctoral) research or study in Australia in the following fields: engineering, sustainability studies, medicine, mining, and life sciences (particularly: oceanography/marine sciences and stem cell research).
- American Museum of Natural History: Of interest to students interested in pursuing graduate studies in the natural sciences at Columbia, Cornell, NYU, CUNY, and at the Richard Gilder Graduate School.
- American Psychological Association - Predoctoral Fellowship in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (MHSAS): Research should have an emphasis on research on the mental health needs of ethnic and racial minorities.
- National Academies of Science - Ford Fellowships
- National Physical Sciences Consortium: "NPSC's principal objective is to aid in increasing the number of PhDs in the physical sciences and related engineering fields, emphasizing recruitment of a diverse applicant pool of women and historically underrepresented minorities."
- NSERC Canada Postgraduate Scholarships: For citizens and permanent residents of Canada.
- Soros Fellowships for New Americans: The term "New American," includes Green Card holders, naturalized citizens, and individuals whose parents are both naturalized citizens; 2 years.
- GEM (Graduate Degrees for Minorities) Fellowships: Fellowships for under-represented minorities to pursue MS and PHDs in engineering and applied sciences.
- DHS Grad Fellowships: From the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS); intended for students interested in pursuing the basic science and technology innovations that can be applied to the DHS mission. Areas of study that are eligible include: physical sciences, mathematical sciences, computer and information sciences, life sciences, social sciences, psychology, and engineering.
