APECS Belgium is
Bringing the Poles to Brussels!
Science fair

Now that Belgium is hosting the Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting in Brussels (20 - 29 May 2013), the young Belgian researchers of the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists (APECS) Belgium feel that it is time to get public attention for the poles! We think that this is an  excellent opportunity for families, kids, students and teachers to learn more about the polar regions.
In particular, it is a chance to gain more knowledge about their conservation, the historic role of Belgium in scientific research on Antarctica, the importance of current research and global climate change!

Therefore, we are organizing a science fair in the weekend of 25 and 26 May 2013.  This outreach event is open for everyone and will take place at the Academy Palace, a beautiful building in the center of Brussels.
Hence, we hope to welcome everyone who is interested in polar science, or in the polar regions in general!

Posters, photo exhibitions, games and very 'cool' experiments will provide unique insights into the goals, methods and experiences of the polar research of numerous Belgian research facilities and organizations. Documentaries will be shown and lectures will be given by a large variety of speakers with experience in the field of polar research or the polar regions. The language of the presentations and experiments will depend on the presenter and the public: there will be lectures in English, French and Dutch. There will be experiments, lectures and documentaries suited for various age groups, going from "life/research at the poles" to details of analyses and results.

On this website, you will find more information about the program and the location, and a more extended description about the contributing research facilities or organizations (with links to websites, goals,...).
We will frequently announce new contributions at the announcements page, the most recent ones can be found here:
