We utilize C. elegans to understand how heterogametes, such as oocytes and sperm, inherit complementary cellular components to ensure a normal first division and development of the embryo. We are interested in understanding the mechanisms that ensure accurate inheritance of chromosomes and centrosomes during the meiotic divisions and the first division of the embryo, with a particular interest on the sexually dimorphic differences in these processes. Our research is relevant to reproduction and cancer. We also are interested in the effect of pollutants on reproduction.
