Southland Schools Orienteering Championships 





Start interval is generally 3 minutes. For course 1 and 2 the start interval has been extended to 6 minutes to avoid following. The control description is printed on the map but loose control descriptions will be available at the start.

There will be the usual 4 age groups, (Year 5 & 6) - (Year 7 & 8) - (Year 9 & 10) and (Yyear 11, 12, & 13).

Each of the three age groups will be divided into Boys and Girls, Experienced and Novices so in all there will be 6 different courses and 14 different classes (also called grades)

Schools may enter as many students as they wish. Students will compete in the event on their own in the Experienced Grade but in the Novice Grade they can compete alone or in pairs.

Competitors must be pre-entered in the event, as start times are to be arranged and maps printed in advance. The closing date for entries is Friday 4th May.

Please note: year 5 & 6 can also enter the competition this year.
TEACHERS & PARENTS, TRY ORIENTEERING YOURSELF. Parents or supporters can obtain a card and use their child's map and have a go at Orienteering or pay $5.00 for a new map. If you would like to ‘ have a go’ please go to the registration tent to discuss a suitable course. You will not be able to start until the last competitor on that course has started.

 Start List sorted by Class, Course & Start Time will be posted here 5 days before the event ( each person will be allocated a start time with a 3 minute separation between starts).

Check that your are entered in the correct category and that
your name is spelled correctly.

        Results: Will  be posted on Winsplits soon after the event has finished.
        Preliminary results will be posted with regular intervals on the noticeboard near the Finish

    A sausage sizzle will be in operation during the event

Directions: Signposted from Dunns Road.
 Make sure you arrive in plenty of time (30 min. before your start time)
Collect your start pack and your E-Stick. Read the instructions on the notice board. Have a
good look at the map on display. Note the position of the finish control so you don't miss it
when you finish. Prepare yourself for the start, have a drink of water, choose the right
clothing for the conditions. Be at the start 3 min before your start time.
Before you get to the start line make sure you know which course you are doing - nothing
worse than picking up the wrong map!!!!
The start list with start times will be published on this website 5 days before the event.

To comply with Health and Safety Rules, please bring a whistle !!!!!!!

To fill in the entry form on your computer follow these instructions exactly:

When the form opens in the viewer, right click on the form and select " Save image as" or 'save picture as'
Choose a file name and save as type: PNG (important)
After saving, right click on the saved file name   open with — Paint
In the Paint program you can fill in the form choosing a suitable font (Arial Narrow) Select text tool. Double click to to show the text box. then enter text. Text box size is adjustable.
To fill in the check mark in the check boxes use the Wingdings font and the Alt Code 0252 to enter the check mark (or use an X instead)

Save the completed form as a JPEG or PDF file, attach it to an email and send to  svendp1@kinect.co.nz
Or simply print the completed form and send it by snail mail to S Pedersen, 226 Dunns Road,RD 9, Invercargill 9879
There are of course other ways of doing this if you are a computer geek and know a much simpler way of doing it, like using a pdf-editing program.

The entry fee is $ 5.00 per student for Southland schools (including Queenstown). For students outside Southland the entry fee is $ 8.00.
