ARCHAEOLOGY

AN EXCITING TIME TRAVELLING LEARNING EXPERIENCE

Encouraging children to understand the concepts of
PAST AND PRESENT / OLD AND NEW

My name is Louise Mansbridge.  In 2009 I set up West Wiltshire Young Archaeologists' Club (WWAYAC).

As Branch Leader I am responsible for overseeing a team of 4 assistant leaders and organising and running fun and educational sessions for up to 30 members ranging in age from 6yrs to 14yrs old.  The club has proved so popular there is a waiting list.

Please check out the WWAYAC website to see what we have been up to so far.

The children's enthusiasm and enjoyment of the club sessions led me to arrange mini-dig sessions at  some local schools.  The feedback was great and the children loved the hands on aspect of the digs and handling the artefacts.

After running several popular History craft sessions for the public (Egyptian, Roman and Ice Age) at Trowbridge Museum I was asked to run a children's fortnightly History Club for a year.

With a lifelong interest in archaeology and history, I have practical experience of excavation at archaeological sites representing Medieval, Roman villa/bath house, Iron Age and Bronze Age.

So please have a look around and if you have any special requirements, please contact me and I will be happy to discuss.

All sessions can be tailored to include:

  • INTRODUCTION TO ARCHAEOLOGY AND THE ROLE OF AN ARCHAEOLOGIST
  • A LOOK AT WHAT SORT OF ARTEFACTS HAVE BEEN FOUND IN THE AREA OF YOUR SCHOOL
  • EXPLAIN HOW ARCHAEOLOGISTS KNOW WHERE TO DIG
  • WHAT ARTEFACTS CAN TELL US ABOUT THE PAST
  • WHY SOME ARTEFACTS SURVIVE BETTER THAN OTHERS
