Strings, Cosmology and Gravity Student Conference 2010

We are pleased to announce the 3rd Strings, Cosmology and Gravity Student Conference (SCGSC), which this year will take place at the Institut Henri Poincaré in Paris from the 3rd to the 5th of November 2010. The conference is designed to bring together young PhD and postdoctoral scientists working in theoretical high energy physics, especially in the areas of String Theory, Cosmology and Gravity. Our primary aim is to give attendants the opportunity to present their research via contributed talks and to form collaborations. There is no registration fee and the conference is open to all interested graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. In the spirit of previous conferences there will be contributed talks only, which will be selected from the abstracts submitted.

This year's conference will be held at the Institut Henri Poincare in Paris from Wednesday 3rd of November to Friday 5th of November.

  • The conference will start at 14:00 on Wednesday 3rd of November and finish at 18:00 on Friday 5th of November.
  • All talks will be of equal length: 30 min.

  • Lunch on Thursday (see schedule details above) and Coffee during breaks will be provided by the organizers.
  • The conference will be taking place in amphitheatre Hermite and amphitheatre Darboux in the Institut Henri Poincaré (IHP).

Social events

    There will be a conference dinner organized on Thursday November 4th at 20h30.
    The conference dinner is planned to take place in a restaurant called

    The  dinner price is 26 euro and will cover : aperitif + menu (entrée + plat principal + dessert). Drinks are not included.

Contributed Talks: If you would like to give a contributed talk at the conference, we ask you to submit a title and abstract together with your registration. Successful applicants will be notified in due course.

Financial Support: Please indicate whether you will require financial support when registering. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, we expect to be able to provide funding for accommodation and travel expenses to the majority of participants from French and British institutions. Priority will be given to speakers and early applicants. Successful applicants will be notified of the amount of financial support we can provide in due course.

The Application deadline for both contributed talks and financial support is: 1st October 2010.


Reimbursement details

This section only applies to participants who have successfully applied for financial support. All Participants should make their own travel and accommodation arrangements and financial support will take the form of a capped net amount up to which successful applicants will be reimbursed. Successful applicants will be notified of the amount of financial support we can provide in due course.

Expense claim forms will be handed out at the conference and expenses can only be claimed if the appropriate receipts are also submitted along with the forms.
For bank transfers we will also need international bank details e.g. IBAN, SWIFT code etc.

Receipts: Please bring receipts for all travel expenses to the conference to submit together with the claim forms.


Accommodation

Participants should make their own travel and accommodation arrangements.

We can also suggest a conference deal for accommodation at Chateau du CNRS in Gif sur Yvette (see the map below) for 50€/night (breakfast included). It is located near an RER B station, from where you can reach the IHP in 45 minutes by RER B. If you would like to stay at the Chateau, please contact us via the conference email address and we will take care of the reservation. Priority will be given to speakers and early applicants.

If you prefer staying in a more central location, we suggest booking a room at Hotel Gay-Lussac (
paris-hotel-gay-lussac.com) which is a relatively inexpensive hotel (40€/night/person for a double room, and 70€/night for a single room), located near the IHP. The number of rooms available here is limited, so please book early if you are interested.
