Moab

Moab, home base to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, is a place like none other on Earth. Engulfed by red rocks, its unique geology has formed the famous arches and canyons that surround it. Arches National Park is home to the world's largest concentration of arches, thanks to thick sandstones which overlay the salty Paradox Formation. Canyonlands National Park is a seemingly endless array of canyons, spires, and overlooks. It is less famous than it's neighboring park, but not because it is any less breathtaking. Below is sample itinerary, all items flexible:
Day 1, 8 AM - Leave Salt Lake City.
12 PM - Eat lunch on road, at probably Green River. Possible stops at Thistle landslide and Helper sandstone/coal seams on the way.
1:30 PM - Arrive in Moab. Check into hotel if needed.
2 PM - Head to Canyonlands, Island in the Sky district.
3 PM - Arrive at visitor center, take a brief look around.
3:30 PM - Take drive to Upheaval Dome. Hike to top is 1 mile. Discuss how we know this is an ancient meteor crater and not a salt dome, as was originally proposed.
4:30 PM - Take the short Mesa Arch hike, also less than one mile.
5:30 PM - Drive to and spend time at Grand View Point, the main attraction of Island in the Sky.
7 PM - Arrive back at camp/Moab, eat dinner, retire for the night.
Day 2, 8 AM - Leave for Arches. Drive to the end of the park first, the Devil's Garden. Hike to Landscape Arch, less than 2 miles round trip.
9:30 AM - Head to Delicate Arch, hike to the arch. This hike is slightly harder, being more than 3 miles and almost 500' of elevation change.
12 PM - Eat a packed lunch.
1 PM - Head to Windows district.
3 PM - Drive to Wall Street district, look around.
3:30 PM - Spend some time at visitor center, including the video which shows part of Landscape Arch falling down.
4 PM - Leave Arches. Last part of the day spent driving to Needles district of Canyonlands. See sunset at the Needles district.
7 PM - Head back to camp/hotel. Eat dinner in Moab or at camp.
Day 3, 8 AM - Drive to a variety of options on the way back to Salt Lake.
