Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon is an American wonder like no other. Though it would be a very difficult choice for me, Grand Canyon National Park may be the best of all the National Parks. One warning I would give: although the view is unmatched, it can not compare to the experience of hiking even a small portion of the canyon. Our visit would focus on the North Rim, which is the higher elevation, and less visited, of the sides of the canyon. Only 10% of the visitors to the park go to the north side, but not for lack of amazement. The main reason it is less visited is the inaccessibility from the south. It is almost a 5 hour drive around the canyon to get from one side to the other, and since more people live to the south, the tend to visit the South Rim. Below is sample itinerary, all items flexible:
Day 1, 8 AM - Leave Salt Lake City
12 PM - Get lunch on the way, possibly at Cedar City.
1 PM - Leave lunch, head east toward Cedar Breaks
1:30 PM - Explore Cedar Breaks National Monument
2 PM - Head toward Kanab, UT
5 PM - Arrive at Grand Canyon. Check in to camp/hotel, go for short drive/hike at Bright Angel point for sunset.
6 PM - Eat dinner, retire for the night.
Day 2, 8 AM - Head to visitor center, spend time exploring.
9 AM - Do a short to medium hike down and up the North Kaibab Trail, depending on ability. Pack a lunch if needed.
1-2 PM - After lunch, explore more of the other points to the east, including Point Imperial, Roosevelt Point, and Cape Royal, with short hikes around the points. Can be pushed to day 3 if needed.
6 PM - Back to camp/hotel for dinner, retire for the night.
Day 3, 8 AM - After breakfast, start to head toward home. Pick one of Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park, Rainbow Bridge National Monument, a ranger talk at Grand Canyon, or more time in Kanab. eat lunch along the way.
5 PM - Back in Salt Lake.
Rock fall along the Coconino Sandstone.
