Emanuel Nine and SC Living Legend Awards

The South Carolina Chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., will present our annual Emanuel Nine Awards to deserving individuals and/or organizations at the 2025 Annual District Conference. The awards will be presented on Friday, October 10, at 6:30 p.m., during the Public Forum at the Spartanburg Community College Auditorium-Downtown, located at 220 E. Kennedy Street, Spartanburg, South Carolina. The Emanuel Nine Awards were established to honor those brave individuals who lost their lives in the mass shooting at Mother Emanuel A.M.E. Church on June 17, 2015. These awards recognize excellence in the following areas: Safety, Political Activism, Volunteerism, Educational Support, and Faith. Detailed descriptions of these category areas are clearly defined here.
The individuals and/or organizations selected from Area I, which covers the counties of Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Chester, Greenville, Greenwood, Lancaster, Laurens, McCormick, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg Union and York, should have stellar records in the category for which they are nominated.
The criteria for the awards are as follows:
The nomination form is designed to collect basic information about the nominee. For a nomination to be considered, complete the form at the above link. The statement of nomination should reflect the following:
Outstanding service in the area selected;
Outstanding contributions to the general welfare of his/her/their community, state and nation;
Outstanding honors, awards, etc.;
Brief biography and/or summary narrative regarding significant accomplishments of the nominee.
Additional supporting documentation for the award should be scanned and emailed to the Executive Director at: executivedirector@scalpha.org:
All materials should be on letter (8.5 x 11) or legal (8.5 x 14) size pages.
All materials should be on white or other light-colored paper to facilitate photocopying.
Articles by or about the nominee may be submitted.
Other documents (awards or certificates of achievement) deemed appropriate may also be scanned to the above-referenced email.
The nominator must secure a photograph if your nominee is selected.
The nomination form should be completed, and any additional documentation submitted by September 1, 2025. We look forward to recognizing the individuals from Area I who are selected to receive these awards.

The SC Alpha Living Legends Award was created to honor and recognize brothers who exemplify the best that Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has to offer. You may nominate brothers from chapters in Area I, which covers the counties of Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Chester, Greenville, Greenwood, Lancaster, Laurens, McCormick, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg Union and York. The selected brothers will be honored at the Fraternal/Recognition Luncheon on Friday, October 10, at 1:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Spartanburg Community College Gymnasium-Downtown, located 220 E. Kennedy Street, Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Active and financial with a chapter in the designated Area for the award;
Involved and outstanding service in the Fraternity for no less than ten (10) consecutive years;
Leadership experience on local, district, regional and/or national levels of the Fraternity;
Outstanding contributions to the general welfare of his community, state and/or nation;
Displays the Fraternity’s aims of Manly Deeds, Scholarship and Love for all Mankind;
Honors, awards, etc.;
Brief biography and/or summary narrative regarding the nominee.
