Welcome to the Photo Club and to all the wonderful opportunities you will have from now on.  You will have the option to take any of our courses and tutorials to learn not only how to become a better photographer, but a good one.  Also, you will learn what some professional photographers are doing in our community as well as be able to enter our various competitions, all of which are geared to differing levels of experience.  Classes are taught by club members or by professionals, usually in the Palm Room. Signup sheets are available at the Lab. There is a Beginner's Special Interest Group that meets at 10:00 am on the 3rd Friday of the month, in the Palm Room for help for our new photographers.

Our meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of every month in the Caper Room in the Atrium of the Community Center.  The meeting usually begins at 6:30 pm with a tutorial, followed by a short business meeting.  We then have either a guest speaker or a club competition.  A name badge will be available to you to wear at the Club's general meetings.  This will help us to get to know each other better.

As a Club Member, you will have access to our Photo Lab, currently located in the Old Town Hall part of the Community Center complex.  The lab is stocked with up to date equipment and software and we have tutorial programs available for their use. The lab is also equipped with an Object Studio for those who wish to take photos for archival or creative purposes, and we have an extensive lending library.  The Photo Lab is open for general use each weekday from 9:00 am to 12 Noon, except it may be closed Fridays during July, August and September. The Lab is also open the first Saturday morning of every month. When it is open, a Lab Monitor is present for help.  A tour of the lab can be arranged with our VP of Club Facilities.

During October, the SCC community voted to go ahead with the construction of a new multipurpose building adjacent to the community campus. This was extremely good news for the photo club as we are one of the prime beneficiaries of the space in the new building.

We have been allocated a large room of approximately 785 sq ft, considerably larger than our existing lab space. Although at this time we do not know the actual dimensions of the room, we are making plans for how we will use it. Our intentions are to increase the number of computer workstations from the current number of 8. And lay them out in the room so that we can have members do their personal work in the mornings, and classes can be held in the afternoon.

We would like to accommodate a small studio which can be used individually, or in groups, as well as for hands on camera and lighting training.

We also plan to have an enclosed ventilated space where spray adhesive can be used to mount pictures.

We want to enhance the capabilities of the club, so we will only be adding to what we can do now.

Of course all of this is still very early in the planning stages, George Seely, Tom Alcumbreck and I are working together with the CA to hopefully get what we want. As things progress we will be sharing the plans and timescales, and hopefully a photographic record of progress on the this website.
