Welcome                                                                              Updated 19 Jan 2017

We are a group of people descending from or related to Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, who come together to explore and celebrate the culture and history, food and artistry that make that part of the world distinct.

Organization and Home Base

The Scandinavian Club of Sun City Center in Florida has seen its membership rise from a handful who with Carl Johnson started the club in 2009 to close to 60 members in 2016. We enjoy monthly social get-together and events from October through May with programs that highlight our Scandinavian heritage but also programs of practical workaday usefulness. The Christmas dinner has become a popular tradition. The club activities are detailed separately.

The Scandinavian Club is affiliated with the Sun City Center Community Association (CA) where we enjoy outreach to a large community and free access to their meeting rooms, some with kitchen facilities, and staff support. As a CA-affiliated club we are a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization.

The Board of Directors plan and organize club events and participation in joint activities with
other societies, for example on genealogy, and with the CA, such as the Hi Neighbor event in November.

Membership & Dues

Membership is open to persons of Scandinavian heritage and their spouses who are residents in good standing in the Sun City Center Community Association (CA) and Kings Point. We welcome applications also from non-resident Scandinavians who will add particular benefits to the Club, such as skills in speaking and cooking Scandinavian, internet and organizing.

The club dues for 2017 are $15 per person due by the end of February, $25 per non-resident.  Those who want announcements by letter mail pay an additional $5 per address per year.

Our current fee policy is to let the club pay out of treasury for meeting expenses when these are small, such as for coffee and cookies, and let admission be free for members. Special events we may subsidize more substantially to make the tickets affordable. The Christmas dinner is one such event, where entertainment and decorations add to the cost of a Scandinavian-style menu.
