Brother Dr. Michael Paul Wood, owner of Vision PLUS, Greenville, S.C., had more than 30 years of optometric experience. In 1969, Dr. Wood enlisted as a Submarine Fire Control Technician before being accepted into the Navy Officer Program in San Diego, Calif. In 1975, he went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from North Carolina State University where he was initiated into the Eta Omicron chapter in 1973.
After an extensive tour of duty, Lt. Commander Wood was assigned to Washington, D.C., where he, in addition to his Navy duties attended the University of Maryland to attain the pre-requisites for entry into optometry school. He was ultimately chosen to attend Pennsylvania College of Optometry where he graduated in May 1984 with a Doctor of Optometry degree. He continued his Navy service as an optometrist at one of the Navy's largest teaching hospital, The Bethesda Naval Clinic, Arlington, Va.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, a loving and supportive wife, Elaine, along with son, Michael Jr., and daughter, Melanee, along with a host a family, friends, and fraternity brothers.
