The South Bay Yacht Club located in historic Alviso is one of the oldest yacht clubs in Northern California. It was established in 1888 and the members were leaders in the community. In 1903 they thought that a proper meeting place was needed near where their sail and power craft boats which were moored in Alviso.  A proper clubhouse was built and still exists, although it had to be moved for a flood control project.  The clubhouse has the reputation of being the oldest yacht club facilities which has been continually in use as a clubhouse.  The facility with its historic photos is truly a link to the past.
