Kim began her career in 1999 as a Community Service Officer with the Rialto Police Department in Rialto, California. Kim also dispatched part-time for the San Bernardino Police Department from 1996 - 2006. In 2000 Kim moved to the Riverside County (California) Sheriff's Department as a CSO where her duties included processing of property crime scenes.
In 2002 Kim was hired by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Dept., Scientific Investigations Division, CSI Unit as a Crime Scene Specialist. In 2004 Kim was promoted to a CSS II and is currently a Lead Person and Training Officer for the unit.
Kim is certified through the International Association for Identification as a Senior Crime Scene Analyst. Kim is a member of IAI, the California Homicide Investigators Association, the National Association of Photoshop Professionals, and the Inland Empire Professional Photographers Association.
Kim has trained extensively in Crime Scene and Digital Photography and has completed five FBI photography courses. Kim is knowledgeable with Adobe Photoshop CS3, CS5, Elements, Lightroom, and other digital photography programs.
Kim played a major role in moving the San Bernardino Sheriff's Crime Lab from film to digital photography, taking the lead in completing validation studies for specific photographic techniques, training the CSI unit in the new format, and developing procedure manuals for the other Crime Scene Specialists. Kim researched and created the Crime Lab's Digital Photography policy.
