Values Education

Values in the Classroom

Values are taught in the classroom to help our students to:
  • develop a love of learning
  • pursue excellence and high standards
  • develop care and respect for themselves and others
  • take pride in their work
  • exhibit a strong sense of fairness and social justice
  • have respect for and understanding of Australia's history including the cultures and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first peoples of Australia, and Australia as a multicultural society
  • actively participate as citizens.
Values in NSW public schools emphasises that values are taught in the classroom through all subjects.

Values Education and the NSW Quality Teaching Framework

The NSW Quality Teaching Framework  embodies the NSW core values. Teachers who are using this pedagogical model are engaging in effective values education practice.

If you search for ‘values education” there are a heap of hits.

There is also a series of books called Philosophy with Kids by deHaan, McColl and McCutcheon; Philosophy for Kids by David White and another called Big ideas for little kids: teaching philosophy through children’s literature (bib details are on SCIS) all of which I’ve used with success, but at primary level.
