The name of the observatory was taken from an old Australian  radio show from the 50s.  It was the only entertainment we had when we went down to our weekender beach shack at Callala in NSW.  The name stuck and kinda followed me ever since.

The construction of the observatory was based on a 3m x 2m gabled roof shed.  Several different ideas for opening the roof were thought of and most discarded just as quickly.  After cruising the internet and joining a few Yahoo astro groups,  it was eventually decided to go with the ever popular roll off roof.  I followed the design of a previous idea I had up north in the mining town of Tom Price.

We first put the walls together attached to a frame,   and then made a frame for the roof to be attached to and then hoisted the roof up onto the top of the shed.  Stuck a few wheels on it and that was it.....

The now infamous solar powered beer droid stands guard,  and when not keeping beer cold,  keeps the observatory batteries trickle charged

If you came here looking for construction ideas,  I'm sorry.  The final shed was made up as we went along and a hell of a lot of wasted time, rude words, cartons of beer,  and mistakes went into building it.  You can get some much safer and easier building ideas from most astro groups........

BUT...

if your perverted minds wish to see how it all came together then head over here HERE
