Thank you all for making National Libraries day celebration at FBL Fantastic!

National Libraries Day celebrated at FBL.

Saturday 4th Feb 2012 was officially National Libraries Day.

Despite the cold weather our local community came out to support us and we were all welcomed inside the warm library and the children enjoyed a number of games and activities.

Boyd Tonkin, Literary Editor for The Independent attended our event and discussed his enjoyment of reading through many of the stacks of books inside when he was a child in Friern Barnet. We all really appreciated him taking the time to visit and talk to us and we would like to thank him his support.

Local acclaimed and published author Shereen Pandit read some extracts from her work and discussed how reading, books and libraries were important for all but especially future generations.  Thank you

A big thank you to all the volunteers that helped support the day and played the games with all the children inside the library. We would also like to thank the librarians at FBL for making sure everything ran as effortlessly as normal. Thanks also goes to Greenacre project for cycling down from North Finchley and bringing some music and sense of occasion to our event.

We would also like to thank all of our the Coppetts ward councillors, Cllr Barry Rawlings, Cllr Pauline Coakley-Webb and Cllr Kate Salinger and beyond for supporting us and giving fun and cheer to the day. We also wanted to relay our thanks and support from GLA candidate Andrew Dismore and Member of Youth Parliament Barnet candidate Hussain Al-Jabir, as well as a message of support from Mayoral candidate Ken Livingstone.

Thank you!

And last but by no means least, thank you to all the local press and national press for giving us the public space in support of our local community and we all hope Barnet hears our passion to keep FBL open.
