Lords of Nothing - Perfect Strangers, 8-10-11

At the time of writing, this video is six and a half years old. Lords of Nothing was the first rock band I joined when I moved back into the Philly area nine years after graduating from West Chester University. I was still clean-shaven with short hair at the time!

Our band played hard rock covers with an emphasis on in-your-face stylistics and soloing. Our rhythm section had played in Get the Led Out. Lords of Nothing's singer also plugged me into his other band, RSVP. We played the bar scene as Lords of Nothing for a few years until Get the Led Out became really big, but when our next drummer joined, the guitarist wanted to write songs. Covers became unsustainable for him, but for me the cover scene was where it was at.

"Perfect Strangers" was a great cover, not one you often hear bands play. It was a great learning experience for me as I loved Jon Lord but wasn't really familiar with Deep Purple's 1980s output. It's fun to look back on this video more than half a decade later. Thanks to "Rock Dude" Brian Maguire for shooting it and keeping it online after all these years!
Lords of Nothing perform Deep Purple's "Perfect Strangers" at the Maple Inn in Honey Brook, Pa., on Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011.
