10th AGORA Web Conference

posted Apr 14, 2017, 11:33 AM by Ji-hoon Kim

Dear AGORA Colleagues,

Thanks as always for your continuing interest and contributions to AGORA.  The Steering Committee held several meetings lately, and proposes to have an 1-hour Collaboration-wide telecon on Apr. 24 (Mon), 12:00pm PDT / 9:00pm CEST.  The eZuceSRN booking information is attached in the email sent to the mailing list.  (Please note the unusual starting time; we will try this new slot to see if it helps those who had troubles with the old one.)

This telecon is to come up with the direction and future projects the Collaboration wants to focus.  In particular, we propose to discuss the ideas assembled in the following agenda:

https://sites.google.com/site/projectagoraworkspace/collaborative-documents/progress-report-12

----------------------------------

ACTION ITEMS:

● Before the telecon:  *Please* take a close look at Sections 1 and 2 in the link above.  If you are interested in leading one of the science-oriented papers presented there in the next 1-2 years, please let me know (see Section 2-(2) for more information).  If you want to propose a new science project utilizing the AGORA platform and lead the paper in the next 1-2 years, please talk to us *before* the telecon (see Section 2-(3) for more information).

● During the telecon:  We plan to (1) choose 1-2 science topics to focus before and during the August Workshop, (2) reach consensus on membership and leadership for each topic, and (3) schedule smaller telecons for each topic to push the papers.

Please let us know if you have any suggestion/comment.  Thank you very much for your attention!

Sincerely,

Joel, Piero, and Ji-hoon on behalf of the AGORA Steering Committee

Dear AGORA Colleagues,

First of all, thank you very much as always for your contribution and interest in the AGORA Project.  As you all are aware, over the past years many of us have been working to compare full high-resolution gravito-hydrodynamics simulations of an isolated disk galaxy across different numerical platforms.  And now, after a great amount of work by many, the AGORA Disk Comparison Group — formerly known as Paper Group 4 — is pleased to announce that the second report of the AGORA Collaboration has been submitted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal.

● Paper - arXiv link:

http://arxiv.org/abs/1610.03066/

● Paper - Local/high-resolution version:

http://www.slac.stanford.edu/~mornkr/agora/AGORA_Paper4_draft.pdf

(28 pages with 35 figures as of Oct. 6)

● Disk Comparison Group Workspace:

(membership required; all figures have been updated with the latest entries from participating code groups to match the draft; last update Sep. 29)

We thank all the passionate participants in this endeavor including, in particular, the code leaders who led the effort within each code group to execute and analyze simulations:  Butler, Ceverino, Choi, Feldmann, Keller, Lupi, Quinn/Wallace, Revaz, and Teyssier.  We also thank those who implemented the Grackle interface with each code, and those who provided inputs on the early version of the paper during and after this year's Workshop at UCSC.  Lastly we thank the members of the core writers group and the AGORA Steering Committee for carefully reviewing the manuscript.

Sincerely,

Ji-hoon on behalf of the AGORA Disk Comparison Group and the AGORA Steering Committee

Cosmological DM-only Run and Paper 2

posted Feb 12, 2016, 2:38 PM by Ji-hoon Kim

Thank you all very much for participating in the Paper 2 discussion today.  Please review the updated discussion note below to see what were discussed and agreed upon.

https://sites.google.com/site/projectagoraworkspace/collaborative-documents/progress-report-9

And many thanks to code leaders who have committed themselves to run and analyze the simulations!  While future biweekly telecons may involve only these code leaders, we will certainly keep all of you in the loop regarding the Paper’s progress.

Sincerely,

Eighth AGORA Web Conference

posted Jan 25, 2016, 3:58 PM by Ji-hoon Kim   [ updated Jun 29, 2016, 10:34 AM ]

We will have an 1-hour web conference for AGORA Paper 2 on Feb. 5 (Fri, 9am PST / 6pm CET).  Discussion items are being updated in https://sites.google.com/site/projectagoraworkspace/collaborative-documents/progress-report-9.

- AGORA Paper 2:  This paper is to extend the AGORA proof-of-concept test described in Section 5 of the Flagship Paper (adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2014ApJS..210...14K).  Please take a look at Section 5.3.3 of the Flagship Paper, and the following collaborative doc to get basic ideas formulated for Paper 2: sites.google.com/site/projectagoraworkspace/collaborative-documents/proof-of-concept-higher-resolution.

- Telecon Agenda:  While up for discussion, we aim to propose to form a small, close-knit team — more compact than the 9-code cohort in the Flagship Paper — to quickly maneuver ourselves towards the goal in the next couple of months.  We will clearly define and/or narrow the science objectives of the Paper, and come up with an achievable, near-term timeline.  We welcome enthusiastic participants who can dedicate manpower and computing resources during this period to run high-resolution (~100 pc) DM-only simulations, and compare the results.

Please feel free to ask Ji-hoon any question about AGORA Paper 2, or anything AGORA.  Thank you very much for your attention and contribution!

Best wishes,

Christine, Oliver, Joel, Piero, and Ji-hoon
