PapaD Project

What is the project you ask?
Well in 2012 Cubmaster Donn's wife Victoria, an avid card maker came up with a holiday seasoned service project where the scout families make holiday cards for the veterans living or staying in the Veterans Administration Hospital's traumatic brain injury unit located in Palo Alto, CA.  Victoria spends all year collecting peoples old Christmas cards and cutting them up into reusable pieces and then gathers up all the supplies.  Traditionally in one hour the pack will make between 100 to 200 cards depending upon pack size.  With one of our local Parkside mom's, Christina who is a nurse at the VA she and her daughter Maya help make and distribute the cards just before Christmas to veterans who get no mail or have no family.
Why is called the Papa-D Project?
One scout parent Dave Quinlan known to everyone as Papa-D was a proud veteran (Sergeant) of the US Army and took a personal interest in this project every year.  Dave was a scout dad with his son Tommy here in our pack in the 1990's and then again with his two grandsons Joey and Mikey from 2013 until early 2017 when he became sick and sadly passed away.
In 2017 the card making meeting was dedicated to our Papa-D and will forever be known as The Papa-D Project.    www.papadproject.com
