San Mateo Pack 458 leadership is very proud to say that because of our dedication to Scouting that we have achieved BSA's Journey To Excellence highest award level of GOLD each year, as well our pack has continued to receive the Summer Pack Award each year, and our leaders have met the BSA training requirements and proudly display the nationally recognized "trained" patch which by national standard less that 30% of adult leader ever achieve.


Here is a little more about our leaders AND we are always looking for more parents willing to become leaders, so please inquire as we need your help and leadership!

Donn Lovell

Cubmaster
Bio: 
Since rechertering the pack on 9/09/09 our cubmaster has been busy keeping things going.  He is a third generation scout and former cub scout from Pack 458 back in the 1970's where his dad was a leader.  As a Cub Scout he earned his Arrow of Light and religion medal, as Boy Scout he earned 44 merit badges and made it to the rank of Eagle, meanwhile as an Explorer Scout he achieved the Explorer GOLD in 1984.  He continued to support scouting as an explorer mentor and merit badge counselor. As adult leader he has completed all of the adult leader requirements as a trained leader and been awarded the District of Award of Merit and he has completed Wood Badge training (Eagle Scout equivalent for adults) plus several other leader awards.  When he is not busy running around doing pack stuff you can find him busy helping his son's troop as an ASM or he is preparing for Camp TaKiMa or up at Boulder Creek Scout Reservation getting ready for a Cup-Parent Weekend.   He is also a nationally certified USA Level 2 Archery instructor and NRA firearms instructor, range safety officer and serves as a BSA Rangemaster.  Oh yeah and do not forget he is our Popcorn Kernal too!

Mr. Ram has two sons in scouts in our pack, both Webelos and he himself was a scout in Fiji.

Eric Orton
Position: 
Webelos 1 Leader
Bio: 
Eric began his scouting experience with Cub Scout Pack 276 in South San Francisco a long time ago. Eric earned his Arrow of Light and then joined Troop 292, also in South San Francisco.  Eric progressed through the the ranks and in 1987 earned his Eagle Scout. During his time in scouts, Eric enjoyed a multitude of activities ranging from hiking to canoeing and rock climbing. Summer camps were always a great experience. Eric also earned his brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow within the Pomponio lodge and was an active member of the Native American dance team--performing for other scouts and community organizations. Today Eric and his wife, Shana have two sons in San Mateo Pack 458.

Bio: 
Pete is our newest den leader heading up the second graders in the wolf den.  He has two boys in scouts, one (Giovanni) in his den and an older son in Boy Scouts. Peter was a scout as youth and has many fond memories.

Bio: 
Geraldine is our newest assistant leader heading up the second graders in the wolf den.. With here partner Peter they have their son Giovanni and an older son in Boy Scouts.

John is one of  our newest den leader heading up the first graders in the tiger den. John has a teen age son and he is den leading his nephew Evan's den.

Connor Lovell

Webelos Den Chief
Bio: 
Since joining Cub Scouts in 2009 as a founding scout he has earned all five rank badges plus his Arrow of Light, he earned all 20 Webelos activity pins and was awarded the district's cub scout of the year award in 2013.  As a Boy Scout in Troop 44 he is currently a the rank of Star Scout and has earned 27 merit badges.  He received his den chief service award in May 2016.  He enjoys helping on staff at Boulder Creek Scout Reservation and in September 2016 he earned the camps service project award rocker.  In his spare time he is flying each month with the Young Eagles.  In 2017 he earned the BSA Amateur Radio Operators award for obtaining his FCC HAM radio license.

Bio: 
Since joining Cub Scouts in 2010 as a tiger cub scout in P-108 Lukas later joined P-458 for his final webelos years before bridging to Troop 61 where he currently participates with his older Eagle Scout brother Xander, who was also a den chief with our pack.

Bio: 
Since joining Cub Scouts in 2014 he has earned his Arrow of Light and earned 16 of 20 Webelos activity pins. As a Boy Scout in Troop 44 he is currently a the rank of Tenderfoot.  Joe is hearing impaired and openly talks about disability awareness and is fluent in American Sign Language. He enjoys helping on staff at Boulder Creek Scout Reservation. Joe with his twin brother Matthew and dad Steve the three enjoy the outdoors.

We are always looking for den Chiefs to help our den leaders with activities.  It is a fun leadership role!  To perform this duty you must be an active Boy Scout and have earned the rank of Tenderfoot to become a Cub Den Chief and 1st Class to to become a Webelos Den Chief.  You are part of the uniformed leaders group and must always be in Class-A dress.  You must complete the online training for Youth Protection Training and Den Chief Training and CyberChip  This is a ONE YEAR youth leadership position that you are expected to attend all meetings and activities,  Contact the Cubmaster for more information.

Joshua Rees

Bio: 
Joshua has two children in scouts, a son and a daughter.  His Scouting career started as a Wolf Scout at the San Francisco Bay Area Council's Tres Ranchos District day camp many years ago.  He then completed his Wolf, Bear, Webelos and Arrow of Light in the Okinawa District of the Far East Council before starting Boy Scouts and completing his Scout through First Class ranks there as well. Next he moved to the Bavaria District within the Transatlantic Council, where he eventually earned his Eagle Scout rank in June 1991 after completing a service project which helped support the army units in Kuwait as part of Desert Shield.  He was a member of the Black Eagle Lodge of the Order of the Arrow, and was a staff member for Golden Falcon - the National Youth Leader Training program for Transatlantic Council.  While a Boy Scout, he participated in many activities, including international events in Okinawa, Germany, and Austria; hiking a Philmont Trek, attended the 1989 National Jamboree and was on youth staff and the 1993 National Jamboree.  He has also spent two summers working at Camp Hi-Sierra and volunteered at Camp Takima day camp the past three summers.  He has worked in libraries for many years, including as a Children's Librarian, a Branch Manager, and a cataloger.  Now since his son Zachary bridged to Troop 27 in 2017 he remains helping the pack as a den leader. assistant cubmaster, popcorn kernal, dish washer, and anywhere he is needed!

Steve Prendergast

Den Leader Alumnist
Bio: 
Steve has two sons in scouts Matthew and Jospeh and he comes from a scouting family and is a San Mateo native where he was a cub scout in Pack 357 and as a Boy Scout in Troop 31 where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1992. He has completed the highest level of adult training called Wood Badge in 1993.  He is an avid shooting sports member and you will find helping on the ranges.  Since Steve's boys bridged to Troop 44 in May 2016 he has remained on with the pack assisting the leadership team any way he can.
