Community Service

Scouting is very much a community service organization.  Since our founding in 1958 our pack is very involved with our schools, neighborhoods, civic groups, and other non-profit organizations that help others and we are always happy to help out when ever needed.

Our boys may be young, but they are the leaders of tomorrow and have the biggest hearts  when it comes to helping others!   We are very proud of the groups we pair up with and the services we do, here are few examples.

Parkside Elemen
tary School- We help keep the playgrounds clean by picking up trash during session breaks, weed flower gardens and plant seasonal flowers as needed, paint the playground equipment (hop-scotch, four square, basketball courts, handball courts, etc).

Color Guard Services- Our pack has earned the reputation of having a top notch color guard team and throughout the year we are asked to come to events and present the colors (carrying in the flags and leading the pledge of allegiance).  For such groups as:  San Mateo City Council, CA Association for the Blind, local neighborhood associations.

Seasonal Food Drives- scouts collect food for local food collection banks and helping hands groups that directly help families in our city like; Second Harvest Food Bank, Samaritan House, and Call Primrose.  Our pack always welcomes donations which in turn we give to our community.

International Scouting-  Our council is very fortunate to have a dedicated scouter who travels the world helping with and supporting the scouting program.  So our boys may do various fundraisers to raise money, for example we bought water rocket launchers and sent them to our friends at Scouting for Afghan Scouting in Afghanistan.

Adopt-a-Soldier- Our pack has adopted the ANG 297th MMU as well a few other soldiers in other units.   We send them cards, letters and goodies from home, just to show them that we are thinking of them back home while they are deployed.

Lions Club International-  Eye glass collection program.  We collect used prescription glasses and the volunteer doctors in the club in turn recycle the glasses and fit ANY child needing glasses for FREE!

Saint John's Cemetery-  Beginning in 2016 our pack has adopted our local cemetery where over 300 soldiers were laid to rest along with fallen or former police officers, firefighters, educators, mayors, and founding families of San Mateo.  This is done the Saturday before Memorial day it is a smaller venue than GGNC but nicer weather and parking and snacks!
