Welcome to Biology!!!

Welcome to the San Marin High School Science Department! Together we will strive to reach your potential through hard work and dedication. It is up to you to take advantage of the opportunities offered.

Course Goals Biology is a lab oriented, concept building course that provides important basic information for students. Many approaches to learning are used, but the laboratory work is the foundation for the course.

The curriculum is based on the Next Generation Science Standards for high school life sciences.  For access to the full text of the standards, go to http://www.nextgenscience.org.

Course Summary

Biology is a lab based science course that fulfills the University of California requirement for a life science. In this course, students will learn how to define and ask questions, obtain, evaluate and communicate information, develop and use models, plan and carry out investigations, analyze and interpret data, use mathematics and computational thinking, construct explanations and design solutions, engage in argumentation from evidence

Students will use these skills to understand the structure and processes of molecules and organisms the interactions, energy and dynamics of ecosystems, the inheritance and variation of traits in heredity and the unity and diversity of biological evolution. In these concepts students will investigate patterns, cause and effect, scale, proportion and quantity, how energy flows, the structure and function, and the stability and change in a variety of biological systems.
