Scuba Diving in Hong Kong

Do you like sandy bottoms? We love 'em, the sandier the better..    last update: February 20, 2015     CONTACT US AT: sandybottomdivers@gmail

With the holidays, and the cold weather, many have decided to go diving somewhere

warm. This year, 2015, some of our members went diving in places like CEBU-

Philippines, Kota Kinabalu-Sabah, Maldives and Phuket-Thailand.

Let's hope they'll share good stories and photos/videos with us soon.

Easter trip to Kapalai was unfortunately "not possible" due to the lack of permits to

dive around Sipadan.

Raja Ampat  during EASTER 2015  ????, come and join us !!!

March 29 - April 5

Is the diving in Hong Kong really that bad ?

See for yourself. This video was shot on November 1 by Tom Platt (his first attempt at this).

  Tree of Life.

Though one of our members missed out on the trip due to a last minute accident/injury, our trip to the Coron Wrecks
and Apo Reef was a success !!

We dived for 2.5 days on the famous Coron Wrecks, and 3 days around the amazing Apo Reef, 21 dives in total, all on Nitrox.

It was our first trip on the "Rags II" and it was all worth it.

Can't wait to get back diving again, but you don't like the cold ?
Join us on our next Cebu trip.

Great place to do your Advanced course and/or Specialty courses.

HKD    p.p.
Price is ex equipment, flights (about hkd 1,600 for DIRECT flights with Cebu Pacific, ex luggage allowance), based on twin share/double room and at least 4 pax going.

More details soon.

LATEST  NEWS,  re the plans for a "man-made beach" at "Lung Mei", next to Tai Mei Tuk.

February 18 there was a hearing regarding the plans for the beach. Outcome still to be presented.

The Government and the beach's supporters are convinced they can just relocate the rare creatures that

live there. A type of sea horse, rare to HK, has been spotted there and we'd love to find it too and get it
on video.

It's been a while since there has been a real development. There are however more and more people visiting the area, especially at night.

The latter ones, I'm afraid, are there to catch crabs. As they thrash around many creatures will probably be disturbed/harassed to a point that they will disappear.

Tire structures at D-site.

A quite a number of fish make the two "tire pyramids" their home. The one at 14 mtr depth has some larger snappers and groupers. Due to the bad/low viz

that is common, this one is a bit more difficult to find. A slow and careful appoach is need as not to scare away the larger fish.

The "pyramid" at around 8 mtr depth is very easy to find. Unfortunately it makes it an easy target for fishermen, and spear fishermen (on scuba).  Over the

past 2 months there hasn't been a single large fish that I've been able to see more than 2 weekends in a row.  Last week a large, abandoned-,  net was

removed from next to it. A spear was picked the week before :-(.
