Amazing Race

General Information

Due to popular demand, the Sandton Yuvak Mandal will host our 2nd SYM Amazing Race competition this year. The event will follow up on the 1st Amazing Race competition held in February 2009. The race is based on the popular TV show Amazing Race and the rules will be based on the Family Edition format of the competition.


The event will be held as part of our pledge and commitment to the upliftment and unification of the youth and community members from the Marlboro gardens and surrounding areas. The aim of this event is primarily to unite our youth and provide a platform for the youth of our community to interact in this action-packed and fun-filled activity.

Event Dates

All teams are required to register at the Amazing Race Registration Evening to be held at the Shree Radhe Shyam Hall on Friday 28th June at 19h00. Teams can also register at the Shree RadheShyam Mandir 19th Anniversary on Sunday, 7th July 2013All teams must consist of four participants in total. Participants must register their team name and team members will be explained the rules. All teams will be expected to come up with a ‘slogan’, e.g. We are team SYM. We are the champions!!!

Amazing Race Main Event will be held on Sunday 14th July 2013. All teams are expected to arrive at 09h00 for briefing. The Race will start at 09h30 sharp!


Prizes will be awarded to the race winners and the team that is judged best dressed team of the race. Each participant of the winning team will receive one 16-megapixel digital camera.

Esquire Technologies sponsored some of the prizes for the competition.

Each participant of the best dressed team will receive a R100 Gift Voucher for Sandton City.

Race Rules

  1. All teams must consist of four participants in total (including driver and cameraman).
  2. 1 Licensed Driver required. It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure all laws of the road are adhered to. The SYM will take no responsibility for any fines or infringements of the team driver.
  3. Each team must video all activities during the race. Video footage must be provided to SYM at the end of the race for DVD compilation.  Each team must bring their own video camera with sufficient  disk space.  DVD’s will be distributed to each team at a later stage.
  4. There might be an elimination stage in the event. All contestants that do not arrive at the cut-off point on time MAY be eliminated.
  5. All participants must submit their video footage to an SYM representative immediately after the race.
  6. SYM will provide cold drinks at the end of the race.
  7. A Prize-giving Ceremony will be held at the end of the race to hand out prizes to the winners.
