Ryugyong Hotel










Ryugyong Hotel - unfinished tower, located in Pyongyang (the capital of North Korea), intended to be used as a hotel. The name comes from the name of one of the sights of Pyongyang - Ryugyong, capital of Allah. In the tower floors 105, and its height is 330 meters. The internal area is 360 000 m ². Now it is the largest structure in the DPRK. It was anticipated that after construction Ryugyong will be the seventh largest hotel and building peace in height. But now only erected the tower wall.

Construction of the hotel began in 1987. The structure of the busy concrete consists of three wings, each facade of which has a length of 100 meters and width of 18 meters. All three wings converge at one point, forming top of the building. Forty-crowned by a massive hotel meters round structure, eight lower floors which can rotate, and the top six motionless. Around the city divided several parks, gardens and pavilions.

The plan to build 105 - storey skyscraper arose during the cold war as a response to South Korean construction company Stamford Hotel in Singapore. To attract foreign investment for the construction company was created special, "Ryugyong Hotel Investment and Management Co". North Korean government has promised foreign investors relaxation of controls, including even permission to build casinos, nightclubs and Japanese salons rest. In 1992, due to lack of funding and general economic crisis in the country, construction was halted.

The bulk of the tower was built, but windows, communication and equipment have been installed. North Korean government is trying to attract 300 million U.S. dollars of foreign investment for the development and construction of new hotel construction and building until it was removed from maps and stamps and built five more familiar construction of a hotel on the bank of the River Taedong River
