The "Red Tails" were also known as Tuskegee Airmen,

black fighter pilots during World War II who painted red on the tails of their planes. Lt. Col. Weathers died at the age of 90, and was saluted at Arlington National ce

metery. He was given full military honors, which in 1945 he and the rest of his squadron were denied, because they were African-American. The survivors were invited to the White House for a screening of the movie “Red Tails.” They did not think of themselves as heroes, but I’m sure that’s how everyone sees them.
