Apps, Windows 11, OpenSSHD, Git, Firefox, You.com

1. I dislike apps which are apps for no reason. 100% of the required functionality could have been implemented as a web page just as well or Trusted Web Activity (TWA) / Progressive Web App (PWA). Greetings go to PostNord.

2. One of my Windows 11 workstations delighted me with TWO blue screens of death (BSOD) during one day. I actually thought that the updates installed would have changed the background to black based on the news. But that didn't seem to be the case. Stop code: MEMORY_MANAGEMENT - Oh joy! Windows made my day, two BSODs in one day. Oh joy! Yet both were triggered by the MEMORY_MANAGEMENT.

3. Ah, Windows & OpenSSHD this is ultra frustrating user experience. It's a classic combination of everything: bad documentation, strict file path requirements, (potentially) unsupported configuration options, and extremely bad logging & error messages. All the things which turn quick and simple tasks into frustrating straddling sessions... Well, it took effort, but of course I got it to work.

4. I find the number of questions and settings prompts during GIT installation absolutely ridiculous for normal users when installing GIT SCM. Then somebody n00b installs it and starts to ask for every freaking option. Great example of absolutely maximizing user frustration before anything meaningful happens. Reminds me of the situation when I was super hungry and went to Subway for the first time, it was an annoying experience, so many questions. I just wanted FOOD, NOW.

5. You.com privacy settings, like personalization and non-permanent mode (privacy mode), both are stored in cookies which aren't properly being refreshed and expire suddenly. Then all queries are again logged, and personal details saved in the service memory for personalization (profiling). Yet they fixed it, when I said it's probably GDPR violation to reset such options covertly over and over again. They also have many other questionable practices. Like claiming to providing access to latest models, which is not true. As well as their web front was often "broken" when their paid API worked perfectly. All of those seem to be really dark business practices and patterns.

6. Russia is proposing a mandatory location tracking app for foreigners. Yeah, are there still people who don't realize that a phone is a tracking device.

7. Firefox Session Resumption / Storage - It doesn't save state on close? If I just normally quit Firefox, the session state isn't updated. Why? This is highly confusing. I think it doesn't even try to save it, because obviously it would take very little time and succeed quickly. If I close tab X right before quitting Firefox, when I relaunch it, the tab is restored like I wouldn't have closed it. So the state data must be stale. Have you had the same experience?

8. I just figured out that I had forgotten search engine option customization for my new workstation. I had customized it for the old workstation, but when I installed the new one... I had forgot to do it. It clearly wasn't that important. But I suddenly noticed that there are some differences between the search results while using my work / home profile, and the reason was that the home profile wasn't properly customized. Now it's finally fixed, so that Firefox default search works exactly as I want it to work.
