Saman Zonouz



I am an Associate Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Rutgers University.

I currently serve on the Editorial Board of IEEE Transactions on Smart Grids. 


Recent work: 

  • A Trusted Safety Verifier for Process Controller Code (NDSS).
  • Hey, My Malware Knows Physics! Attacking PLCs with Physical Model Aware Rootkit (NDSS).
  • 3D Printer Security (USENIX-Security)

I received NSF CAREER Award in Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS). Project started in 2015.


I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science at UIUC in 2011, and B.Sc. in Computer Engineering from Sharif University of Technology in 2006. 


My research interests are in cyber-physical systems security (currently funded by active projects from NSF, DOEnergy, DOEducation, ONR, DHS, ARPA-E, AFOSR, Siemens Research, GrammaTech, Fortinet, Google, ETAP and WindRiver). My group is looking at:

  • Cyber-Physical Systems Resilience
  • Embedded Systems and Systems Security and Privacy
  • Programming Language and Physics-Aware Formal Verification
  • Intrusion Detection and Response Capabilities
  • Malware Analysis and Reverse Engineering
  • Trustworthy Power-Grid Critical Infrastructures
