This meeting's lunch was sponsored by Nearmap. If you have any contacts that would be willing to ‘sponsor’ a lunch by providing food/drinks in exchange for their advertising at the meeting, contact a SLUG Board member.
Presentations
Clint Hutchings - West Jordan City
West Jordan is the third largest city in Utah and when it snows they get about 100 calls a day during a storm. It was hard to get the word out to residents on when their roads would get plowed and sometimes streets would be missed despite the plow’s records. They came up with a new way of handling the street plowing by using ArcGIS Velocity. Velocity is an ArcGIS Online add-on that is for real time processing and analysis. Velocity allowed for them to monitor progress in their situation room and provide a dashboard to inform customer service and city leadership of street plowing status. They also keep history of every snow event so if someone ever calls in to say that their road was never plowed, they can know for certain whether it was or not. In the future they would like to add plow position and salt drop data to their dashboards. Find out more here about their snow removal process.
Matt Starley - Greater Salt Lake Municipal Services District
The Magna Historic District Revival plan integrates various planning and development disciplines, including long-range planning, economic development, GIS, and drone operations. Traditionally, long-range planning relied on 2D formats like PDFs and maps, but the use of ArcGIS Urban, SketchUp, and 3D drone products has transformed this approach. This blend of technologies allows for the visualization of existing conditions and future scenarios, facilitating the assessment of impacts and development costs. The Magna Historic District Revival website, built with ESRIs Experience Builder, offers an engaging platform for stakeholders. The plan showcases the town's progress through episodes, created using SketchUp and ArcGIS Urban, along with the use of drones for data collection.
