Rachel Manko, SLUG Board
Welcome to SLUG’s first in person meeting in 2 years! We would like to thank Wheeler Historic Farm for hosting us. And to Novotx for sponsoring lunch.
We are hoping to have our next SLUG in person again in August. We will send out more information as we get closer to August.
Save the date for the next UGIC conference which will be in Vernal from May 9-13, 2022 at the Uintah Conference Center. Registration is open right now and the agenda and preconference information will be posted on their website.
This meeting's lunch was sponsored by Novotx. If you have any contacts that would be willing to ‘sponsor’ a lunch by providing food/drinks in exchange for their advertising at the meeting, contact a SLUG Board member.
Novotx, Tom Toronoto and Michael Philp
Novotx has a product called Elements XS which is an asset management software. It provides users with a system of record, insight, and engagement. Contact Tom or Michael to learn more.
Presentations
Casey Sledge - UTOPIA
Casey talked about how Utopia fiber provides services to its current customers and future ones. Utopia fiber is an open access network with 16 member cities and over 50 businesses. They provide infrastructure such as the fiber line but they are not the internet provider which is why the users get to choose their providers. Utopia takes city boundaries and carves them up based on the number of addresses. This allows them to look at the different ways they can get connected to all those addresses and put it on a webmap to show who can get services and who cannot so potential cities can see. To learn more about Utopia, visit their website.
Christina McCullock - Gateway Mapping, Inc.
Christina talked about some of the ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online tips and tricks that she has found recently.
ArcGIS Pro Tips and Tricks
In the charts section
a. Open the attribute table and click statistics and this will open a chart that is interactive - if you click on a bar on the chart it will highlight on the map
b. The selected features button will zoom you to those features
c. Highlight want you want in the chart by dragging and it will allow you to filter the chart and create a new one
Shortcut: pressing the A or D button will rotate the map frame by 90 degrees and pressing the N button puts N back at the top
Map and layout undos are separate from each other
a. Undo dropdown is specific to the map you are in
b. Layout undo is specific to the layout you are in
Pro allows for saving multiple definition queries but you can only have 1 turned on at a time
The command search in the top bar is helpful for looking for tools or creating new maps
With the add data button, there’s a data preview button on the right side that will give you a preview of your data when you are trying to add in your data if you are not sure of which layer to add
Pro has two themes: light or dark
a. To change your theme go to Options - General - Application Theme
ArcGIS Online Tips and Tricks
With the new mapviewer you can nest your groups
a. There is a downside - the groups you make in the new mapviewer don't work in the webapp builder
Experience builder lets you edit the attribute in the table right in the map and it will save your nested layers
a. ESRI says they do not support it but it is useful to replace a URL in your map
b. You can’t swap a feature layer for a map layer and vice versa, they will need to be the same type of service and then it will let you switch them out
c. You can do a simple copy or full copy of content to your account or to someone else’s account
