Presentations
Ellie Leydsman McGinty – Remote Sensing/GIS Lab at Utah State University
Ellie discussed how her department does the high resolution land cover mapping that is used for conservation and restoration. The different mapping methods to see land use are manual air photo interpretation, pixel based image classification, and object based image analysis. One of the projects she has worked on was the Wasatch Front impervious surface mapping where they worked to create a high land cover use dataset to focus on mapping and quantifying impervious surfaces. Creating this dataset would provide support for wetland restoration and conservation and watershed condition assessments. Another project involved Price River riparian vegetation mapping. This was a high resolution dataset that specifically was created for the lower regions of the Price River. The Price River has been impacted by invasive species, dewatering, overgrazing, and sedimentation and this dataset would help to support the restoration plan.
Hayley Miller – ESRI
Hayley talked about the ArcGIS configurable template solutions. These solutions are a collection of maps and apps that are able to help your organization. ESRI has spent a lot of time producing these templates that follow workflows that they see their customers using more. These solutions provide a good starting point to finding templates that will work for your organization. While there are a number of solutions made for specific industries, you can take any of the solutions and use it in a way that will benefit your organization best. Some of the industries include business, state and local government, health and human services, and conservation. Check out ESRI’s solutions overview page to get started and learn more.
