Minutes of the 35th Quarterly Salt Lake GIS Users Group (SLUG) meeting, held on February 14, 2018, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at Unified Fire Authority Station 123 (4850 W Patriot Ridge Drive) in Herriman. There were about 52 in attendance.

UGIC Conference will be in Vernal this year from May 7th to May 11th. Pre-Conference training will be on May 7th and 8th.

Talsan Schulzke, Unified Fire Authority, Unified Fire Authority in a Data-Driven Age
Talsan talked about data being utilized for further expansion of Fire Stations driven by continuing growth in the valley. UFA has also been closely looking at how it’s doing with delivering services to customers. Showed a video, “Harness the Power of your data”, an overview of Interra software.
Dave Vincent, USGS, New LiDAR efforts that AGRC is proposing and 3DEP program
A summary of the 3DEP (3D Elevation program) and the growing needs for high quality topographic data. There are two emerging LIDAR technologies, Linear LIDAR & Single Photon. Cost for collecting LIDAR has been decreasing every year and commercial sensors are becoming available for Bathymetry. Dave showed examples of how 3DEP is being used for various hazards including landslide recognition and detecting faults.
Joe Peters & Joe Rhodes, ESRI, New Solutions
Demo of Public Crime Map solution from Joe Peters. Joe Rhodes mentioned that Utility Network, a solution for managing utility and telecom networks is out. It’s an extension that operates directly in ArcGIS Pro.
