Recently the sky opened up and dumped buckets of water on us for two days like someone turning over a zip lock bag and opening the zipper. The cops came to our door and told us that we should get out. We put as much of our stuff of value on tables and chairs that we could, then we fled to his mothers two bedroom apartment. This is were we stayed for 5 days. Living here is, my family of six our three dogs, our cat, my mother-in-law and her two cats. When the power came back on after five days we went back to our house. We went about our lives for one whole day when we went to bed that night my husband woke up with the worst asthma attack that he has ever had in his life. We retreated back to his mothers house and began the very slow process of removing every thing we own from the home and placing it in pods in our driveway. When it was cleared out part of the way we started to asses the damage the more that we tried to fix the worse we found the damage to be. The whole underside of the carpet was wet and black with mold. Water could be squeezed out of the walls in our room. My husband went into the back bathroom he pressed on the back wall, to his surprise the tiles all fell into the tub and water pored out of the insulation. Everything that was fabric in our home had a slime coat. So we called FEMA to assess the damage and see what they could do for us. In the mean time we kept packing up all of our things for short bursts wearing painters masks. We had our inspection and they said that we had standing water 2 feet deep in the back half of our home. We lost our bed, our couches and several other items. They gave us $9,998.60 for damage repair and temporary housing. Our next step was to get an estimate on the repair they said that on the low end it would be 40,000 to 50,000 just to make it somewhat livable again and that does not cover the carpet, our bed, the couches, or anything else cloth. On top of that they say that we can not do anything to repair it until the government decides weather or not they are going to change the codes for the height of the foundation. So the next logical step for us is to move. We are now in the process of trying to convince a lender/homeowner that we are worthy of having a home of our own. Till then we are held up at my husband's mother's house till further notice. As for our business the product is OK but we don't have any way to sell and ship it because of the lack of space and time. So to put it mildly we are unemployed, and homeless. We have to walk the dogs in turn and clean up after them we are worried about Matilda because she does not have a harness and she can slip out of her collar we have to be extra careful. Not to mention they are all bored out of their minds. Well that is what is happening in my life right now. We are treading water with no were to go because the draw bridge is still down. That is all I have for now I will keep you posted if anything else develops. Thanks for listening.
