The thought of an alumnae chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota began in the fall of 1997. By early 1998, a few alumnae members began working towards making that dream a reality. The Tri-State Musicians was born and met for over two years. This group was later installed as the first new chapter in the year 2000.
On February 12, 2000, the Winchester Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota was installed. The beautiful ritual ceremony was conducted by Shelby MacFarlane, National Vice President of Extension and Fraternity Development, who was assisted by Dr. Deborah Volker, Iota A Province Officer, and then Eta Tau Chapter member, Tracey Wygal. The installation and affiliation of the new chapter was held at the Goodson Chapel on the campus of Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA.
