Service to sport awards 2012

Please nominate your favourite sports coach, instructor, administrator or volunteer for a Service to sport award.

The Herts Sports Partnership want to recognise those behind the scenes who help make success in sport possible and make Hertfordshire a healthy place to live, work and play.

Obviously this isn't just a judo thing, however if you're not sure who to nominate you may get some inspiration from our instructor's page :-)

Introduction of assistant chief instructors

I wanted to drop you a line about some recent updates at St. Albans Judo Club.  We have all been very busy and committed recently in working to secure long term future of the club, and updates on this will continue to be given as appropriate and timely, but the judo has not been forgotten. As you will see there have been recent changes and developments, for example with the introduction of the SAJC Competition Squad which has been enthusiastically embraced by our younger judoka.

We want every member to be able to achieve their personal goals in judo, whether this is personal fitness, excellence in Kata, competition training, or recreational judo.

With this in mind, I am pleased to announce the following instructors have accepted the role of Assistant Chief Instructor (ACI)...

It will be the role of the Assistant Chief Instructors to support our Chief Instructor Andrew Paveley, and the Club’s coaches in delivering the highest standard of Judo at St Albans Judo Club.

We have decided to create a Coaching Forum, which will consist of the Chief Instructor, Club Chairman, and the new Assistant Chief Instructors to examine what we are doing as a club, how we can improve, and how best we can meet the individual needs of our members. This forum has already met, and has a number of agenda items and objectives to pursue.

This is a great development for the club; an initiative to plan and focus on the delivery of excellence in all areas of our judo, as we move into new and exciting times for SAJC.

From Matt Lish and Andrew Paveley.

Congratulations to Matt Lish

Matt Lish now has a black belt!

On 24th Aug, during a grading session on the last day of the Bognor course, he ticked the last box for his 1st Dan grade by winning another fight. I'm sure the whole club will join in congratulating Matt (also our club chairman) on his success.

Some extra detail, along with a photo of Andrew Paveley presenting his grade, is in the bottom section of this scanned Herts Advertiser article.

Farewell to Lisa Paveley

The SAJC members said a sad farewell to Lisa Paveley on Thursday 26th April, her last night at the dojo. (Click on the image to view it full-size.)
Lisa is moving to Bristol, to join her fiancée Adam in her new home. We sent Lisa off with copious amounts of chocolate cake, flowers and just a drop of champagne.
All the children, and her many friends at SAJC will miss her terribly. But this is not goodbye, and we look forward to regular visits and updates on how she is doing in her new home.
Good Luck Lisa - We are missing you already!
