Balloon Vehicle

You will be constructing a balloon powered vehicle. (no other means of propulsion are permitted)

You may do this alone or in pairs

Your aim is to have your vehicle travel as far as possible down the hallway

You will be videoing your vehicle as it moves down the hallway and using the video to analyze the motion and forces involved

I will be providing the balloons but no other materials. The balloon I provide is to be the only source of power for your vehicle.

Some class time will be available for construction but most of the construction will likely need to be done at home.

This will be an iterative process. After the first trial of the vehicle you will be given time to improve upon your design and then a final trial will be done

You are permitted an initial nudge to get your vehicle moving (this is not a hard push...the trial will not be counted if I decide you pushed too hard)

You are not permitted to guide the vehicle after release. This includes touching the vehicle or guiding it with other objects

I reserve the right to disqualify any vehicle designed by Derek and Caspar

I reserve the right to modify these rules at any time. If you are unsure, you must check with me to see if your design complies with the intention of the project.
