Xiaoguang Rui is now a student to pursue master’s and doctoral degrees consecutively in the Department of Electronic Engineering and Information Science (EEIS), University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), supervised by Prof. Nenghai Yu and Prof. Mingjing Li. He received her bachelor degree at Department of Electronic Engineering and Information Science in University of Science and Technology of China in 2005. He is a member of MOE-Microsoft Key Lab of Multimedia Computing and Communication, USTC. His research interests include pattern recognition, machine learning; computer vision, image annotation, image classification; and image retrieval and ranking. He has published several research papers in some important conferences and journals such as ACM multimedia, IEEE ICME, IEEE ICIP, etc.al, and also has two US patents.

                 Research on framework of large-scale machine learning, based on which large-scale subspace learning, distance metric     learning and support vector machine are  implemented. This framework enables parallel computing, on-line analytical processing and data compression on massive data, and can be applied for multimedia processing.

Ÿ           Research on the framework of large-scale machine learning, based on which large-scale subspace learning, distance metric learning and support vector machine are implemented. This framework enables parallel computing, on-line analytical processing and data compression on massive data, and can be applied for multimedia procession

 

Image Annotation & Retrieval (supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China, and et,al.):

Ÿ           Research on image annotations on social network, and propose a unified image annotation refinement framework, which leads a performance improvement by 30% in average.

Ÿ           Propose an image ranking model which utilized the structures of virtual community. Achieve a good performance in terms of relevance and diversity compared with commercial image search engines.

Ÿ           Lead a team to develop and implement an image search engine (image.zhisou.com) based on 6 million images, which enables searching by keywords and images.

 

Intelligent Product Search Engine (collaborate with Qianfan Technology, http://www.zhisou.com)

Ÿ           Responsible for product analysis and processing module, and lead the team and achieve the main functions, such as product library construction, product category matching between different sites, new product classification and et.al.

 

Hotspot Detection and Retrieval (supported by 863 Program of China, and et.al.):

Ÿ           Develop and implement some key algorithms for hotspot detection and retrieval, such as large-scale text classification & tagging, near-duplicated document detection et.al. Establish a prototype system to show and retrieve hotspot information on more than 20 websites including blogs, forums and news sites.

 

Personalization (supported by 863 Program of China, and et.al.):

Ÿ           Proposed an online topic-level user interest model for personalized recommendation. It can effectively model user interests, and can be updated in real time.

 

Ÿ           8/2006 – 9/2007

Research Intern, Microsoft Research Asia, Beijing, China

Image Annotation & Retrieval:

Ÿ           Research image annotations in the multilingual situation, and propose a cross-language automatic image annotation framework which can utilize the information of cultural differences of people with different mother languages and provide more accurate multilingual image annotations to all users.

Ÿ           Propose and implement a bipartite graph reinforcement model (BGRM) for automatically annotating web image. This work is accepted by ACM Multimedia content track. It improves the precision of original web image tags by 100%;

Ÿ           Propose and implement a statistical approach for realistic image annotation. This method can leverage large-scale web image to effectively tag both personal and web images in a rapid speed (50ms per image, a PC)

Ÿ           Participate the Cross Language Image Retrieval Track (ImageCLEF) 2007, visual concept detection task, and achieve a good result (rank: 5th, 26 groups);
