The Free Shire of Carlsby is pleased to present the
Royal University of Scir Havoc (RUSH) - Back to Our Roots
Saturday, November 5, 2016 (A.S. 51)
The songs we sing as we march to war, drumming and dancing, making camp, making food, making armor making garb, making fun the Calontir way!
Our site is the Prairie Moon Waldorf School; 1853 E. 1600 Road, Lawrence, KS 66044 . This is just off Highway 40/24, near the Lawrence Municipal Airport. It is convenient to North Lawrence, Downtown Lawrence and Massachusetts Street (including Yarn Barn - open Saturdays!). Exit 204 off I-70 is moments away (see map).
Site opens at 8:00 a.m. and closes at 8:00 p.m. Classes are from 9 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. indoors and out. Artisan's Row Classes - Bring your own Tent/Pavilion/Shade Fly!
Numerous fast food and other dining options are nearby, but we will have a tasty inn on site for lunch.
Several motels are within reasonable distance, as are campgrounds with hookups. Crash space may be available with various Shire Members. Contact our Crash Space Coordinator Anna Katarina von Liebenstein for more information. We are also very close to the Barony of Forgotten Sea (Kansas City metro area) and the Shire of Crescent Moon (Topeka, KS), in the very heart of Calontir.
Carlsby will sponsor an a la carte tavern, cooked by Aelisia de Mortaigne (Lisi Chance 785-550-7734), of Mad Dogs and Englishmen Tavern fame. Let her know well in advance of dietary restrictions or allergies - she is most accommodating. Bring your hunger, it promises to be amazing. The main hall has a large common room for socializing and dining.
Because the school is built for kids, ALL the tables and chairs and inside toilets/sinks are also built for small people. Please bring your own chairs!!! We have arranged for several porta-potties outside for the comfort of our guests.
Inside the school, we have access to four well-equipped classrooms - each has sinks, electricity and running water. These classrooms, however, have tiny tables and chairs. They have pillow forts for reading time, and comfy sofas and chairs in some cases. It is a nifty environment where the kids learn through hands on activities like knitting, baking and art. Please respect their classrooms.
We have room outside to set up Artisans' Row, where teachers of loud, messy or flammable type courses can set up their own pavilions or merchant-type tents along the walkway to the door. The school has had a blacksmith set up a forge before, and assures us a forge is welcome again. We ENCOURAGE as many hands-on classes as possible.
The school also has a huge flat, grassy area for combat-related classes (armored and cut and thrust). All combat-related classes must have an appropriate marshal present, per Calontir law, if participants will be using any sort of weapon or practice weapons.
Parking is abundant.
Smoking indoors or near building entrances is prohibited. Police your own butts.
