This is the computer program used to search for books in a library.
Have paper handy when you use this -- You will need to write down titles and call numbers of books you want to find.
A call number is the code you need to find the correct place a book will be in the library.
The call number will be on the computer screen and also on the spine of the book.
All books have 2 parts to the call number. The first part tells the type of book and the 2nd part tells the author.
There are 7 types of call numbers in our library:
Numbers mean non-fiction (usually those are true books, different numbers for different subjects)
Fic means fiction chapter book (story from author's mind)
E means it is an easier fiction story (picture books)
L1 or L2 stands for level 1 and level 2 readers (in bins on fiction side or small bookshelf by computers)
GN in front of any call number means graphic novel (most are on the back wall above the non-fiction)
PB in front of any call number, means paperback book (in the 4-sided paperback shelf)
CS in front of any call number, means class set (it will be in a different location, ask the librarian)
Look at the call number under the book picture when choosing books. It helps!
You will need a call number with numbers on it when you are doing a factual report for school.
You are probably going to want one with Fic for your Reading Counts book.
If you are getting a book to read to your younger brother or sister, maybe a picture book story is best (call number E)
Basic Search Window
Type what you are looking for in the box next to Find & click one of the square buttons underneath.
Screen like this will come up
Corvallis Primary School will be in the middle area, if you want other schools click arrows
There are 3 different views to use when making a search. Choose the one you like best. All do pretty much the same thing. Remember -- the reason you are using this is to find a book and get the call number.
Basic (this one)
You can do more if you log in.
The Login is the same for this as it is for Reading Counts.
My info will show the books you have checked out, holds you have and recommendations.
You can make your own lists and view books you have checked out in the past.
Click on the picture of the book to get more information. Then you can also hold the book or add it to your list.
My List is handy if you see something you like and want to remember it and maybe check it out later. If you have logged in, the list will still be there next time.
Visual (better for younger kids since there isn't any typing and also good if spelling is a problem)
Destiny Discover(fancier & has more features)
Pictures of books are bigger and can see new books that came to the library
Click Back Office (under More) to get back to the basic view.
If you want a different looking screen, click Visual or Destiny Discover.
Visual Search Window
Just click until you get a list of books you are interested in -- easy but not as much control.
