d1.openx.org cookie removal from from temporary internet files cache [Solved]

d1.openx.org cookie removal from from temporary internet files cache

Good day,
I can't remove a specific cookie (d1.openx.org) from temporary internet files cache unless I replace it with another cookie from openx(which they imply blocks the original).
I don't want either, so haven't attempted this yet.
openx info here http://www.openx.org/privacy

I've place a block in Internet Options/Privacy/Per site privacy actions, but I now see it is no longer in the list.
I've also blocked 3rd party cookies in Internet Options

I've also followed procedures here
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278835/EN-US but said cookie and even others remained in the temporary internet files cache ie.
yahoo etc.
(all browsers had been closed including Yahoo Messenger 10)

Any help would be great...
If it wasn't for Windows, I'd know so little about my computer.
Thanks ;)

Hi jorj1,

I had a problem similar to yours and I successfully addressed the issue, for my case at least.
But it might as well be your case too!

It was a spyware installed as a Browser Helper Object (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browser_Helper_Object) for more info.
This is the strategy used to install toolbar
plug-in in Internet Explorer.
These plugins have privileged access to the content of you web page.
They can insert ads in the web pages you are visiting (as it is in our cases), but some of them can work silently and to steal your password as you key them
You detected the presence of the one which pushes ads, because of the spy cookies.

You can see/activate/inactivate all plugins installed in Internet Explorer from the menu "Tools", item "Manage Add-ons...".
Then, pay attention to components which have no known signature, one of them MIGHT be the culprit.
Mine was a control with no name
(suspicious eh...!) and was identified as "flvdome".
Stuff from Microsoft, Adobe, Sun Microsystems, Simtec, ...
are safe.
Try to disable the suspicious ones, one  at a time, in order to turn off only the bad one.

Good luck

Manually editing the Windows registry

Manually editing the Windows registry to remove invalid MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION keys is not recommended unless you are PC service professional. Incorrectly editing your registry can stop your PC from functioning and create irreversible damage to your operating system. In fact, one misplaced comma can prevent your PC from booting entirely!

Caution: Unless you an advanced PC user, we DO NOT recommend editing the Windows registry manually. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows. We do not guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To manually repair your Windows registry, first you need to create a backup by exporting a portion of the registry related to MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION (eg. Windows Operating System):

  • Click the Start button.
  • Type "command" in the search box... DO NOT hit ENTER yet!
  • While holding CTRL-Shift on your keyboard, hit ENTER.
  • You will be prompted with a permission dialog box.
  • Click Yes.
  • A black box will open with a blinking cursor.
  • Type "regedit" and hit ENTER.
  • In the Registry Editor, select the Error 0x9C-related key (eg. Windows Operating System) you want to back up.
  • From the File menu, choose Export.
  • In the Save In list, select the folder where you want to save the Windows Operating System backup key.
  • In the File Name box, type a name for your backup file, such as "Windows Operating System Backup".
  • In the Export Range box, be sure that "Selected branch" is selected.
  • Click Save.
  • The file is then saved with a .reg file extension.
  • You now have a backup of your MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION-related registry entry.
