About Us

The Radford University Equestrian Team was founded in 1938 and was one of the first teams of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA). The team was also the first sport offered at the university and were nicknamed "The Redcoats". When the Redcoats first started, the riders rode on campus- more specifically Moffet Quad and would participate in school parades and festivals. Since the Redcoats are the oldest team at the university, they are well known throughout the New River Valley and surrounding colleges in Virginia.
The Redcoats are considered a club sports team at Radford University where about half of the members compete in the intercollegiate circuit (team) and half of the members just take lessons for leisure (club). The team members have two lessons a week while the club members have one lesson a week.
