Utahns are frustrated because they do not see themselves moving ahead. We need to build an economy of self-reliance. We must generate better, sustainable employment opportunities that are not subject to the whims of out-of-state corporations and foreign energy prices or dependent on corporate welfare in the form of reduced taxes or tax rebates.

This starts with a renewed focus on technology and the leading edge of industry. We must increase access to educational opportunities including alternative paths like vocational education that help workers transition from old industries to new jobs and we must ensure that our children are prepared for the jobs of the future. We must also promote policies that support working families such as equal pay for equal work and publicly supported childcare and family and sick leave.

  • Support employers that provide jobs with greater equality and self-reliance.

  • Recognize that middle-class consumers, not businesses, are the true job creators.

  • Implement a self-reliant wage so all working Utahns can adequately provide for their families.

  • Fight for Utah families by supporting policies that lead to mandatory paid family leave and publicly supported childcare.

  • Require that women receive equal pay for equal work.

  • Encourage the recruitment of good paying jobs to Utah without giving in to corporate welfare in the form of reduced taxes or tax rebates.
